Selburose Hat Knitting Pattern for Adults & Kids • Traditional Norwegian Star (PDF)

Selburose hat, featuring the traditional eight-pointed star that gave the Norwegian Selbu tradition its name — the pattern that started it all. Part of my Selbu collection alongside owl, moose, squirrel, hare and bear designs.

The pattern comes as a PDF with written instructions in English, charts and photos, available for immediate download after payment. This is easy level knitting pattern; the following skills are required: Cast on, Knit, Purl, Circular Knitting, Color Knitting, Bind off. All measurements are given in US and metric. SIZES: Adult — 56–60 cm / 22”–23” circumference, Kid — 50–54 cm / 20”–21”.

YARN: Any aran weight yarn in two colours. I used DROPS Nepal:
50 g / 82 yd in 8916 bordeaux,
30 g / 49 yd in 8915 chalk for adult's size.

The yarn consumption is approximate—you will probably need less. You may also need a stitch marker.

GAUGE: 10 cm × 10 cm / 4” × 4” = 17 sts × 22 rows in stockinette stitch. 

NEEDLES: Circular or double pointed needles 4.5 mm / US 7.

Please check that your gauge matches the recommended gauge for the chosen yarn, and adjust your needle size if needed. If you prefer a slightly smaller or larger hat, try using needles half a size or one full size smaller or larger. Most yarns work well across a needle size range of about 1.5–2 mm.
